Blogs
May 29, 2008 8:34 PM | Posted in OpinionSpecifically, personal blogs and online diaries, not the political/underground journalism kind. I don’t know what you think of blogs, but what I do know is, you can’t stop reading them. Before the modern Internet age, strangers were inaccessible. There was no such thing as privately stalking someone from the comfort of your own home. Now, with Google, Facebook, MySpace, and free web hosting, this concept isn’t so ridiculous.
Most people don’t worry about their public blog, because they figure the details of their lives are uninteresting to people they don’t already know. That makes about as much sense as leaving your front door unlocked because you think you’re the only person interested in your stuff. People get creeped out when they hear details about their lives from strangers, even though they willingly put that stuff out on the public Internet. “Why would strangers be interested in my life?”, they ask. “It’s creepy and weird!” But you’ve done the same thing, right?
